The Bones of Rosalinda
Hints and Walkthrough

General advice:
Different characters and body parts can interact with the environment in different ways. If you think an object may be useful, but can't interact with it, try switching to a different character/body part. In addition, some areas in the game are accessible only to certain characters.

Part 1: Getting out of Dungeon Cell
Hint 1: Getting through the locked grate door should be easy – if you're not too big.
Hint 2: Rosalinda's arm can easily get out of the cell. Use it to find a way to free the rest of her body.
Hint 3: Explore the rooms outside Dungeon Cell to find the item you need.
Hint 4: If the door is unlocked, but Most of Rosalinda still cannot leave Dungeon Cell, remember to take what you need from the Cave.
Hint 5: You'll have to be able to reach into the Cave.
Solution: Switch to Rosalinda's arm and leave Dungeon Cell. From Dungeon Corridor, go to Albert's room. Take the Rusty key from the table. Then, use it on the grate door. Before Most of Rosalinda can leave the cell she needs her skull, since Piecrust wants to talk to her. Switch to Most of Rosalinda with an arm attached and examine the hole in the wall – you'll be able to reach inside and pull out the skull.

Part 2: Waking up Tekla
Hint 1: Once you enter the Kitchen (by opening the wooden door in Kitchen Corridor using Most of Rosalinda with an arm), you find Tekla the cook asleep. You have to find a way of waking her up.
Hint 2: By now, you will be able to control Piecrust. He knows Tekla. If he's in the Kitchen, he may have something useful to say when you examine her.
Hint 3: As mentioned by Piecrust, Tekla is notoriously hard to wake up. Albert normally accomplishes that by brewing strong coffee.
Hint 4: Albert may have some of that coffee stashed somewhere.
Hint 5: You'll have to brew a whole lot of coffee to wake up Tekla.
Solution: Go to Albert's Room, open the cupboard and take the Packet of coffee. Use it on the pot of water in the Kitchen.

Part 3: The Reinforced door and the Pantry
Hint 1: You'll need the help of someone strong to break down the reinforced door in the Kitchen.
Hint 2: Tekla the Ogress could help, but it's possible she'll chase Rosalinda out of the Kitchen when you try to get her attention. Find a way of telling her you're a friend.
Hint 3: Once you talk to Tekla, you can ask her to break down the reinforced door. Tekla and Piecrust both hope you can get to the Pantry (inaccessible since Gustav's explosive experiments have caused the archway to collapse) that way.
Hint 4: The Forgotten Cellar leads to a maze of rooms and tunnels. Find a way of getting to the Pantry through that maze.
Hint 5: The delicious food in the Pantry may help you find the way.
Hint 6: Try switching to different characters in the Maze.
Solution: Once Tekla is awake, try examining her with the Skull of Most of Rosalinda with the Skull attached – that way you'll be able to talk to her and calm her down. Ask her to break down the reinforced door. Once the door is removed, you can go down to the Forgotten Cellar. In the maze, switch to Piecrust – his sense of smell will highlight the correct passages leading to the Pantry. Follow Piecrust's steps with Rosalinda to get her to the Pantry and take the items from the shelves.

Part 4: Getting back Rosalinda's other arm
Hint 1: Beast the dog has Rosalinda's other arm. Try to interact with him using different characters to learn more.
Hint 2: If approached by the other arm, Beast will always grab it, letting go of the arm he was gnawing on.
Hint 3: Try to somehow "modify" the free arm so that when you approach Beast with it, he won't enjoy chewing on it.
Hint 4: Look for helpful items in the Kitchen.
Hint 5: Examine the pot of goulash.
Hint 6: Examine the pot of goulash with the arm – you'll see an option to bathe in it.
Hint 7: Tekla won't let Rosalinda put her hands (or drop miscellaneous items) in the pots. Find a way to distract her.
Hint 8: To distract Tekla, try talking to her.
Hint 9: Bathing the arm in goulash only makes Beast enjoy it more. Find a way of changing that.
Hint 10: If you examine the cookbook, you'll see the recipe for the extra-hot goulash. Asking Tekla about that recipe reveals that Beast (just like Gustav and Albert) doesn't like spicy food.
Solution: While the Skull – or Most of Rosalinda with the Skull – distracts Tekla by chatting about cooking with her, use the extra-hot peppers from the Pantry on the pot of goulash. Examine the pot of extra-hot goulash with the arm and bathe in it. Then, approach Beast with the spicy arm.

Part 5: Breaking the glowing seal
Hint 1: Piecrust used to be a wizard. He may know something about the glowing seal in Damaged Tunnel North, which blocks your progress.
Hint 2: Examining the seal with Piecrust, or while Piecrust is around, reveals its demonic nature and suggests a way of destroying it.
Hint 3: Try exploring around new areas to find items that can help you.
Hint 4: Piecrust can get down the chasm, but cannot pick up any items found in the Knight's Crypt. Find a way to get there with Rosalinda.
Hint 5: There is that stumpy rock in Damaged Tunnel South, and a piece of rope in the Cave…
Hint 6: Once you have the pendant from the Knight's sarcophagus, figure out how to use it to destroy the seal. Hints are on the sarcophagus, or can be gained by examining the pendant itself.
Hint 7: You'll have to find some water – or something close enough to water – and a proper vessel.
Solution: Examine the glowing seal with Piecrust – or while he's around – to learn it can likely be destroyed with holy water. Get the Rope from the Cave south of Dungeon Cell (you'll need to send a detached arm there). Switch to Most of Rosalinda with both arms attached and use the Rope on the stumpy rock in Damaged Tunnel South. Slide down the Rope to Knight's Crypt, open the sarcophagus and take the Holy pendant. In the Kitchen, use the pendant on the pot of coffee (distracting Tekla will be necessary) to create holy coffee. Use the Cup found in the cupboard in Albert's Room on the pot to take some of the holy coffee. Return to Damaged Tunnel North and use the Cup of holy coffee on the glowing seal to destroy it.

Part 6: Getting past the flying demon
Hint 1: The flying demon in the Octagonal Room will teleport Rosalinda to the Barracks right away if he sees she's undead. Find a way to conceal her nature.
Hint 2: Rosalinda used to be a seamstress. With the right materials, she'll be able to fashion a disguise for herself.
Hint 3: You'll need to combine multiple items, found in various rooms, to complete the disguise.
Hint 4: If you're missing a small object needed for sewing, send Piecrust to search places Rosalinda cannot access.
Hint 5: Once you're wearing the disguise the demon will talk to you, but you cannot get past him without knowing the password – his name. Find a way to learn the password from someone who knows it.
Hint 6: Rosalinda can make a wish before the demon cuts off her head for saying an incorrect password.
Solution: Get the Sun standard (from Knight's Crypt) and the Scissors (from Barracks) and combine them to receive the Cut-up standard. Get the Needle (from Rat Hole south of Albert's Room – only Piecrust can enter) and the Thread from Albert's Room and combine them into Needle and thread. Combine Needle and thread with Cut-up standard to get the Hooded cloak. Put it on and go to Octagonal Room. Ask for a last wish and choose to learn the demon's name. Return to Octagonal Room and say the correct password.

Part 7: Destroying the burning seal
Hint 1: Another seal is blocking the way to the Ritual Chamber. It was also created by the flying demon.
Hint 2: If you return to Kitchen for more holy coffee, you'll learn that Tekla has drunk it all! You'll have to find another way of dealing with the seal. Piecrust may have an idea.
Hint 3: Piecrust suspects banishing the flying demon will destroy the seal. He thinks Gustav may have the right spell scroll for that in his room, but the door is locked from the inside.
Hint 4: Once you have the scroll (see "Getting into Gustav's Room" below), banishing the flying demon should be easy.
Hint 5: Rosalinda won't be able to do it on her own, though.
Solution: Use the Banish Demon scroll on Quintus the Gullible. Make sure Piecrust is in Octagonal Room when you do this.

Part 8: Getting into Gustav's Room
Hint 1: Piecrust can get to Gustav's Room by squeezing under the locked door, but he can't carry the scroll. You'll have to get Rosalinda – or a part of her – in there.
Hint 2: Using Piecrust, try to mess around in Gustav's room.
Hint 3: When Piecrust destroys Gustav's candle, the Necromancer leaves the room to get another one, but he locks the door behind him. You'll need to use the Gustav fetching the candle to your advantage. There may be a hint in what he says before he leaves the room.
Hint 4: Gustav says he could use a nice candle-holder.
Hint 5: There is a supply of tallow candles in the Storeroom.
Hint 6: Try to "offer" Gustav a candle-holder… which will then steal the scroll from him!
Hint 7: Place the candle-holder somewhere Gustav is sure to find it.
Hint 8: Once in Gustav's room, you'll have to find a way of unlocking the door. Stealing a key may be necessary.
Solution: Send Piecrust to Gustav's Room and Rosalinda to the Storeroom. Detach one of Rosalinda's arms and add it to the inventory. Take a candle from the wooden shelf and combine it with the arm in your inventory. Use the Arm with candle you received on the wooden shelf to place it next to the candle pile. Switch to Piecrust. Examine the candle in Gustav's Room and select the option to destroy it. Piecrust will eat the candle, and Gustav will run to fetch another one. If an Arm with candle is on the Storeroom shelf, he will bring it instead to use as a candle-holder. Gustav will fall asleep shortly, and the arm will be able to explore the room. Using the arm, steal the Silver key from Gustav's pocket. Use it on the door to push it to the other side. Pick it up with Most of Rosalinda and use it to unlock the door. Search the papers on the table and take the Banish Demon scroll.

Part 9: The ritual
Hint 1: Examine various objects in the Ritual Chamber to learn more about the mirror demon and how to defeat it.
Hint 2: You'll need to complete the weakening ritual described in the grimoire before you can destroy the mirror. Find the items required for the ritual.
Hint 3: One of the items should be obvious. You can get another one in a place you'd normally look for it, and craft the third one.
Hint 4: For the salt, use the "Pretty rock" you get from Tekla in exchange for the Blueberry pie from the Pantry.
Hint 5: Finding a real rose in the catacombs may be impossible, but does the rose have to be real?
Hint 6: Craft a rose using Rosalinda's skills and the materials you have.
Hint 7: Once you've completed the weakening ritual, try to destroy the mirror. There is an item to find somewhere that should take care of that.
Solution: Read about the weakening ritual in the grimoire to learn about the ingredients you need. Once you know the ritual, you can place the required items on the altar. Use Rosalinda's skull on the altar. Use the Blueberry pie on Tekla in the Kitchen to receive the Pretty Rock (you may examine it with Piecrust around to find out it's salt), then use the Pretty rock on the altar. For the rose, combine the Red fabric scraps with Needle and thread to get the Red fabric rose. Place it on the altar as well, then read the words of the ritual from the grimoire. Once the demon has been weakened, use the Sledgehammer (found in the Old Basement, west of Barracks) on the mirror. Make sure to attach the Skull first, so that Piecrust can cast the banishing spell at the right moment.

Part 10: The finale
Hint 1: Find an item that will let you defeat Gustav.
Hint 2: Even though Rosalinda's inventory is empty, she has the required item on her – so to speak.
Solution: While Rosalinda is being held in the air by Gustav, detach any her body parts. Add it to the inventory, then use it on Gustav to throw it at him, knocking him out. Once Rosalinda is free from the spell, reattach all the body parts, pick up the Sledgehammer and use it on the mirror to finally defeat the Watcher!
